Going to (I am going to do)

going to (I am going to do)

a) Chúng ta dùng going to (do) khi nói về một việc mà chúng ta đã quyết định sẽ làm hay một việc chung ta dự định sẽ làm trong tương lai:

  • A: There’s a film on television tonight. Are you going to watch it?
  • B: No, I’m too tired. I’m going to have an early night.
  • A: I heard Ann has won a lot of money. What is she going to do with it?
  • B: I’ve heard she’s going to travel around the world.
  • A: Have you made the coffee yet?
  • B: No, but I’m just going to make it. (just = ngay lúc này)

Để biết sự khác biệt giữa will và going to, hãy xem bài 8.

  • What time are you meeting Ann? (hay: “are you going to meet”)
  • I’m traveling to Scottland on Monday. (hay: I’m going to travel”)

Xem thêm bài 4a.

c) Chúng ta dùng was/ were going to để nói về một việc mà ai đó đã dự định làm trong quá khứ (nhưng đã không thực hiện).

  • We were going to travel by train but then we decided to go by car.
  • A: Did Tom do the examination?
  • B: No, he was going to do it but in the end, he changed his mind.
  • I was just going to cross the road when someone shouted “Stop”.

d) Going to còn có một nghĩa khác nữa. Hãy xem tình huống mẫu sau:

going to (I am going to do)

He is going to fall into the hole.

  • Look at those black clouds. It’s going to rain.
  • Oh. I feel terrible. I think I’m going to be sick.
